Xbox Countdown Sale to 2017: Our Picks

Firewatch, Halo, GTA and more slashed
Digital games are way too expensive in Australia, so thank goodness for things like the Xbox Countdown Sale. When you can go to the shops and purchase a disk of a game for often half the price of the online price, the ease of access from owning a game digitally does not make up for the fact that you could purchase twice as many games physically (or far more if you are willing to wait a while). So when there is a digital sale that’s worthy of your time, we want to let you know.
Xbox are having their yearly end of the year sale, the Xbox Countdown Sale. Now while not as good as some of the more recent Black Friday deals (which we discuss in episode 3 of our Versus Player podcast), there are some games that jump out as particularly good value.
Personally, this sale meant I finally picked up one the games I wished I played this year, The Witness and Jase’s recommendation, Firewatch.

My top pick of the Xbox Countdown Sale would have to be Tales from the Borderlands. If you have listened to our podcasts, I’m sure you’ve heard me drum on about how hilarious this game is. And no, you don’t need to have played the other Borderlands games. Also, the Lego Avengers games are rarely on sale, although they are much, much cheaper on PC (I hear you say it… isn’t everything?).

Oh, and there are games on sale on the Xbox 360 side of things as part of the Xbox Countdown Sale, with the best of the most recent Fallout games, Fallout: New Vegas, on sale and backwards compatible on your One.
Thanks to Xbox’s very own Major Nelson for the list. Check out the Xbox dashboard for daily deals or Major Nelson’s blog for the complete list.
