E3 2018: EA PRESS CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

EA kick off E3 2018 EA once again kicked off E3 with the EA 2018 Press Conference. It started off with a cool augmented reality Anthem intro and had many expected games shown, with some surprises thrown in, including cloud gaming running on multiple devices and Origin Access Premier, with everything EA coming to the subscription service. Plus an awesome AVAILABLE NOW moment with the reveal and simultaneous release of Unravel Two (AKA: Yarny and Blue Yarny Adventure). You can check out the highlights below. Battlefield V Big talk about game-play innovations and customisation. The destruction looks epic. Oh, and no loot boxes and no premium pass. Is EA making this game still? And one more thing... Royale (it took way less time than I thought to hear about a game including a Battle Royale mode). https://youtu.be/SWVtV59mczk FIFA 19 With the World Cup a week away, I can't help but be extra pumped for this. Not only was there a look at FIFA 19, but there was also a look at the current FIFA 18 World Cup mode, with a free trial of the game AVAILABLE NOW (I love this sort of thing at E3!). Champions League is the big push for FIFA 19. The trophy was on stage, a nice touch for super fans. https://youtu.be/zX0AV6yxyrQ Origin Access Premier Not a game, but all…

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II AND YOU: A REDDIT STORY

Let's talk dirty. You ready? MICROTRANSACTIONS. LOOTBOXES. PAY TO WIN. Hot? Not. Reddit has gone the way of the Tauntaun with Star Wars Battlefront II, they think the whole thing stinks and microtransactions should probably die. Let me break it down. The EA Community Team posted the following in regarding to putting Luke, Darth and friends behind a paywall. Comment from discussion Seriously? I paid 80$ to have Vader locked?. Click on the link and you'll find that EA have been downvoted into oblivion and even set a record for the most unpopular comment on reddit. The little gold star next to it? That's reddit gold. The accolade costs real money and is typically reserved for comments that a reddit user deems worthy of praise, in this case it has the opposite affect. I guess that's one way of voting with your wallet. In response to this EA have reduced the cost of these downloadable characters by 75% however they have found alternate ways to recoup lost revenue. Get a head start on the battlefront. Get three rare Star Cards that improve your defensive abilities on the battlefront, and 1500 Crystals, with the Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II Starter Pack. Look on the bright side, you get a sweet $2.49 off if you have EA Access. Now the EA hate train has even more carriages and…

GAMES ON THE CHEAP: OCTOBER 2017

Games with Gold, PlayStation Plus, Humble Bundle and more I need to start with the huge game amongst many solid offerings this month, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This is a spectacular, albeit weird, action game that was easily one of the best games of 2015. The game allows for what you see in the image above... so it's obviously a must play. Games on the Cheap this month has a surprising PC offering from EA on the House in the form of SteamWorld Dig, the highly acclaimed platform mining adventure game. EA on the House is also giving away the Star Wars Battlefront season pass, although hopefully there are more people playing the DLC on PC than on Xbox One! Over on the Xbox side of things, Xbox One owners can get Gone Home. If you know nothing about this game, keep it that way and enjoy! I'd also recommend playing it with someone close to you so you can speculate through the short story. Here are the GAMES ON THE CHEAP for October 2017 Xbox Games With Gold Out from the 1st Gone Home: Console Edition – Xbox One Rayman 3 HD– Xbox 360 Out from the 16th The Turing Test– Xbox One Medal of Honor: Airborn – Xbox One https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW7unN7lk3c PlayStation Plus Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - PS4 Amnesia:…

BEST OF THE WEB: STAR WARS WEBTOON

A long time ago, manga style Star Wars Webtoon is a manga style web comic series by Hong Jacga. The comic goes through the original Star Wars trilogy, but from the perspective of Luke Skywalker. Being a web comic, it is presented vertically. This allows for some striking art pieces that require a few page scrolls to get through. This Korean comic boasts incredible art and some really interesting alterations to existing Star Wars dialogue. It is also completely free. Personally, I read the whole thing on my phone, snapping many screenshots that became beautiful phone backdrops (until the next incredible illustration). You can check out Star Wars webtoon here. You can also download Webtoon on your phone and read the whole thing for free there too. Here at VERSUS PLAYER we love everything nerdy and want to share with you some of our favourite things on the Internet. Best of the Web is an ongoing series where we do exactly that. If you liked this you might like some of our other Star Wars things, including a previous Best of the Web pick, Seagulls! SUPANOVA SYDNEY 2017 COSPLAY

Incredible cosplay talent on display in Sydney Supanova Comic Con & Gaming was held in Sydney from the 9th until the 11th of June in Sydney Olympic Park. There was an abundance of incredible cosplay on show, with characters from video games, movies, comics, TV, books, anime, manga and everything in-between. This year there were quite a few large scale costumes, particularly those showcasing video game characters. There were way too many cosplayers for me to photograph them all. Below is just a sample of the amazing cosplay that was on display. If you want to check out some the the amazing Star Wars cosplayers that came to the Guinness World Record attempt, follow this link or click on the picture below. We also recorded a special podcast where we chatted about our experience being Official Witnesses for Supanova Comic Con & Gaming's Official Attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the "Largest gathering of people dressed as Star Wars characters". You can check that out here or by searching for VERSUS PLAYER on iTunes. Supanova is an awesome event. What makes it so special is the friendly vibe, cool stalls, interesting panels and the wonderful cosplay. You can find out more about Supanova and when it will be in a capital city near you here. SUPANOVA GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS STAR WARS COSTUME ATTEMPT

Witness Me! On Friday 16 June 2017, Jono, Jase and I (along with Hayden from the 501st) were Official Witnesses for Supanova Comic Con & Gaming's Official Attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the "Largest gathering of people dressed as Star Wars characters". We got to work with Bryan from Guinness, who is an absolute champion of a bloke (and who has a very cool job). An Official Attempt had never been made before, so the bar was set at 800 people, which was based on the average number of participants from similar types of events. In our roll as Witnesses, we had to ensure that everyone who registered for the Guinness World Records attempt for Star Wars costume gathering met all the pre-set criteria. This criteria had rules such as: People needed to be dressed as a recognised character who has appeared in a licenced Star Wars release or as a generic character who is immediately identifiable as someone in the franchise (such as Jedi or Sith). The character could include someone from films, novels, comics, TV and video games. The character could be from the the new Disney Canon or the Lucasfilm Legends Canon. Costumes couldn't be a customised version of an existing character (eg: Aussie Vader). It needed to be a full "head to toe" costume. Unfortunately,…
