Xbox Game Pass, Games with Gold, PlayStation Plus, Epic Games Store, Prime Gaming and more
Games on the Cheap is back! The last time I did one of these was way back in June 2018. A lot has happened since then, with many huge free games being offered (GTA V) and developments to subscription models (Game Pass on PC).
With the release of the Xbox Series consoles and PlayStation 5 this month, there will be a heap of games on offer that will only require the cost of Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. Pretty good considering the cost of the new machines!
My biggest pick this month has to be EA Play becoming part of the cost for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for console players (it’s coming to PC December). This includes a whole heap of sport games from the 20 series (FIFA 20 anyone?) and hits (and some misses) like Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville, Sea of Solitude, Battlefield V, A Way Out, Unravel Two, Burnout Paradise Remastered, Star Wars Battlefront II, Mass Effect Andromeda and the phenomenal Titanfall 2. Personally, this will be a good chance for me to finally finish Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and A Way Out (which I had a heap of fun playing with my wife who very rarely plays games).
Over on PlayStation 5 land is the PlayStation Plus Collection, which is a selection of 20 PlayStation 4 games that will be included for those who pick up a PS5 and have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. The big hitters here are God of War and Uncharted 4 (my personal favourite game of the current – almost last – generation). This won’t be available for PlayStation 4 gamers FYI.
My individual gaming pick is Tetris Effect: Connected as part of the launch of Xbox Series X and S. All that money on a new console and the first thing I’ll play on it will be a new version of Tetris. It’s like the Game Boy all over again! Also, if you’ve not checked out Celeste, it’s a beauty.
