E3 2017: Ubisoft Press Conference Highlights

Mario at Ubi!?

The Ubisoft E3 2017 Press Conference started with one of the most surprising intros to an E3 conference I can remember and a bunch of games that look cool. Really cool. Like, incredible!

You have to give Ubisoft one thing, they make amazing trailers.

Here are my highlights to the show, which, unfortunately, didn’t include a “one more thing” moment that had Aisha Tyler walking on stage. You can’t have everything.

Seriously though, this Press Conference really had something for everyone. Well done Ubisoft!

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

A Rabbid hitting a Mario question mark block, then eating a mushroom. Right there was surprising enough, but then for the man himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, to walk on stage and talk about the game!?! Oh, then gameplay and it looks as beautiful as you’d hope a 3D Mario game to look! THEN, it plays like XCOM!? With all the humour you’d expect from a Rabbids game. And Princess Peach rescuing herself!? Only at E3.

Unbelievable!

Assassin’s Creed Origins

More Origins, with a trailer showing off some impressive animal animations then an extended offscreen gameplay video running on Xbox One X.

The Crew 2

Now I want a game with the Inception homage shown in the trailer to actual extend to gameplay. While The Crew 2 isn’t this game, the trailer is worth checking out.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

More shown for the sequel I thought we’d never get. Could be confused for an episode of the TV show.

Transference

Elijah Wood (you know, the voice actor from Broken Age) showing off a very weird looking thing.

Skull & Bones

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag? Is that you? Close enough! Looks like the game us Black Flag fans have been hanging out for. A super cool trailer then gameplay that really does look like the evolution of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. Can’t wait!

I’ve added the trailer and gameplay clips below. Both are definitely worth checking out!

On a side note, I wonder how Microsoft and the Sea of Thieves devs felt when they said “shared world”? Very different looking games in every way, except the pirate thing.

Just Dance 2018

It isn’t a Ubisoft E3 Press Conference without people on stage dancing to promote Just Dance. Then again, is it an Ubisoft E3 Press Conference without Aisha Tyler? Either way, hearing Bubble Pop! on stage was cool.

While the trailer below wasn’t actually shown during the conference, I thought I’d pop it up.

South Park: Phone Destroyer

A mobile game? Don’t dismiss this. It looks great!

Starlink: Battle for Atlas

What the what? A toys to life sci-fi space shooter? And the toys connect to what? This is one I need to get hands on with to see what on Earth it feels and plays like.

Steep: Road to the Olympics

Ubisoft did say they’d keep on supporting Steep post release. I doubt anyone expected a Winter Olympics expansion! Wow!

Far Cry 5

A short teaser and then extended gameplay. The amount of detail in games now-a-days is staggering.

At this stage of the show I feel like Ubisoft should just stop it here. Where do you go from here?

Beyond Good and Evil 2

I guess you go in a VERY different direction. Video games my friends… Video games!

Ubisoft, seriously, your trailers are phenomenal. Also, everything you said about Beyond Good and Evil 2 on stage (and the passion and love with which it was said) was awesome.
